Bob learned to ski as a teen at Blue Hills in Canton, MA.  While attending UNH in the late 1970’s, Bob became an avid recreational skier.  With years of family weekend ski trips in the rearview mirror, Bob and his daughter Jessie began volunteering at LRDS in 2021.  

Bob recently retired from Weston & Sampson after a 40-year career in Environmental Engineering.  Bob was instrumental in the firm’s growth, from 40 employees and one office when he began, to over 1100 employees and 25 offices when he retired.  Bob served on the Board of Directors at Weston & Sampson for 16 years and on the Board of Directors of the non-profit West End House Camp for 28 years.  Bob also served on the Board of Directors of the New England Chapter of the American Public Works Association and the Essex County (MA) Highway Association.   

Originally from Sharon, MA, Bob and his wife Amy raised their three kids in Burlington, MA.  Now relocated to Belmont, NH, Bob is honored to serve on the LRDS Board of Directors, and is delighted to continue as an on-mountain volunteer.

Janet Martel is the Secretary of the LRDS Board of Directors. She brings more than 35 years of experience in the public-school sector, where she taught middle school science and math and served as her school’s technology integrator. Throughout her career, she championed inclusive classrooms that supported students with diverse cognitive and physical abilities. Her commitment to accessibility and equitable learning environments naturally extended her passion for adaptive sports. 

A lifelong skier who grew up skiing at Gunstock, Janet began volunteering with LRDS in 2017.  She is committed to promoting lifelong sports for all and advancing LRDS’s mission of accessibility, independence, and community through adaptive recreation.

Tim joined the LRDS Board after several years of volunteering with adaptive sports programs. His involvement began when his youngest son, who is visually impaired, learned to ski through adaptive instruction. Inspired by Sam's instructor, he learned to guide visually impaired skiers himself, developing a lasting passion for adaptive recreation and service.

A retired actuary, Tim spent his career advising U.S. companies on retirement plans around the world. He remains active in the profession through the American Academy of Actuaries’ Retirement Policy and Design Evaluation Committee, helping develop ideas to strengthen the U.S. retirement system. After retiring and moving to Concord, New Hampshire, he discovered LRDS while looking for a meaningful way to stay involved in his community. In addition to serving on the LRDS Board, he is Vice President and Treasurer of the Concord Greenspace Coalition and Treasurer of the Wentworth Watershed Association.

Patrick has been a dedicated member of LRDS since 2016, beginning his journey with the program at the age of 19. While he was one of the younger instructors at the time, he benefited greatly from the guidance and mentorship of experienced instructors who invested their time and expertise in teaching him the intricacies of sit-ski instruction. Throughout his tenure with LRDS, Patrick has found great fulfillment in helping students develop their skills and work toward independent skiing. His passion for adaptive sports began long before joining the organization, inspired by seeing mono skiers on family vacations and recognizing that skiing is a sport where barriers can be overcome and opportunities are open to all.

Through LRDS, he has had the privilege of working alongside and supporting an incredible community of athletes, families, and volunteers. Patrick is grateful for all that LRDS has given him and looks forward to continuing to contribute to the program for many seasons to come.

Betsey has a lifelong connection to skiing and the New Hampshire outdoors. Having learned to ski in elementary school and grown up enjoying New Hampshire's mountains, she understands firsthand the joy, confidence, and sense of community that skiing can provide. Her passion for supporting Lakes Region Disabled Sports stems from a desire to make those experiences accessible to everyone. She is proud to support an organization that helps remove barriers to participation and creates opportunities for individuals and families to experience the sport she loves. 

Betsey has served as Chief Executive Officer of Community Action Partnership of Strafford County (CAPSC) since 2010, leading an organization that provides more than 60 programs and services focused on housing, food security, early childhood education, transportation, and other essential community needs. Prior to joining CAPSC, she served as Public Health Practice Lead at URS Corporation, supporting federal agencies including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and FEMA. She brings extensive nonprofit leadership and governance experience through her service on several boards and committees, including CAPLAW, the New England Community Action Association, the Greater Rochester Community Health Foundation, the New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits, and the Dover Chamber of Commerce, as well as previous service on the Dover City Council and Dover School Board.

Kate has been actively involved with LRDS for the past 15 years. Over the years, Kate has developed a deep appreciation for the transformative impact LRDS has on participants, families, volunteers, and instructors alike. Witnessing the confidence, independence, friendships, and opportunities created through adaptive recreation has been a continual source of inspiration and has reinforced their commitment to advancing LRDS's mission of expanding access and inclusion for people of all abilities. 

Professionally, Kate serves as the Rural Health Education Liaison with the GO-NORTH Rural Healthcare Initiative at the University of New Hampshire. With more than a decade of experience in community health education, outreach, workforce development, and partnership building throughout New Hampshire's Lakes Region, she brings extensive expertise in community engagement and collaboration. Her career highlights include developing cross-sector partnerships, supporting rural health workforce initiatives, leading community-based education programs, and improving access to resources and services for diverse populations. In addition to serving on the LRDS Board of Directors, she serves on the Hands Across the Table (HATT) Board of Directors and has been actively involved with the Lakes Region Medical Reserve Corps and Community Emergency Response Team.

As a long-time skier (former racer), educator, volunteer, and parent of two children whose critical illness led to disability, Pam’s passion for adaptive athletics is driven by decades of personal experience that underscore the immeasurable value a quality adaptive program can bring to a person’s life. Pam had her first experience with adaptive skiing as a high school student and began teaching adaptive aquatics soon after. Inspired by the bravery, persistence and determination of her children and students, Pam came to see how adaptive athletics moves beyond simple recreation to transform lives (including her own)! 

Along with committed devotion to the LRDS mission, and experience as both an elementary and high school teacher, Pam brings governance and fund-raising experience to the board. She has served as director for a variety of non-profit organizations including the national Hydrocephalus Association, a major K-12 International School in Tokyo, Japan, and an educational organization promoting community music, theater and dance.  In addition, along with her family, Pam co-founded Team Hydro, a non-profit dedicated to raising awareness and funds supporting hydrocephalus research (mostly through open water swims).  As part of this effort, Pam can be found organizing events and swimming from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco every summer.

Pam has been involved with a variety of adaptive programs over the years and has been privileged to serve as an LRDS Instructor for the past seven seasons. She absolutely loves working with our wonderful students, families, volunteers, and staff, and looks forward each day to finding new ways to help each and every one experience thrill and joy sliding on snow!

Pam bring governance and fund-raising experience to the LRDS board. A trained teacher, Pam has worked in the classroom as well as served on the boards of a variety of non-profit organizations including the Hydrocephalus Association, a prominent K-12 International School in Tokyo, Japan, and an educational organization promoting community music, theater and dance.  In addition, along with her family, Pam co-founded and a non-profit dedicated to raising awareness and funds supporting hydrocephalus research (mostly through open water swims) which has generated over $2 million dollars in dedicated research funds and helped researchers secure over $20 million more in follow-on funding.  As part of this effort, Pam can be found organizing events and swimming from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco every summer.

Pam received an A.B. In Human Biology from Stanford University, a teaching credential from San Francisco State University, and was completing a master's degree at Harvard Graduate School of Education when her daughter Kate, born over 3 months prematurely, suffered a brain hemorrhage, developed hydrocephalus, and was shunted, prompting Pam to put aside her studies to focus on family.

Jocelyne MacDonald is a pediatric physical therapist, athletic trainer, and passionate advocate for adaptive sports and recreation. As the owner of a pediatric physical therapy practice, she has dedicated her career to helping children and families build confidence, independence, and lifelong participation in meaningful activities. Jocelyne regularly connects the families she serves with adaptive sport and recreation opportunities throughout the community.  

Beyond her clinical work, Jocelyne has volunteered for a wide variety of adaptive sports programs. She became a LRDS volunteer in 2024. Now as a member of the LRDS Board of Directors, Jocelyne is excited to combine her professional expertise, love of skiing, and passion for adaptive recreation to help athletes discover the joy and empowerment that comes from adaptive sports.

Michelle is honored to serve her first term on the Lakes Region Disabled Sports Board of Directors. As an adaptive athlete with the program for the past three seasons, she has experienced firsthand the positive impact adaptive sports can have on confidence, independence, and community. Michelle became a quadriplegic following a spinal cord injury 12 years ago and enjoys participating in a variety of adaptive sports. Professionally, she works part-time for a nonprofit as a Resource Navigator, supporting individuals living with a wide range of mobility disabilities. Michelle looks forward to helping advance the mission of Lakes Region Disabled Sports and expanding opportunities for others to experience the benefits of adaptive recreation in the Lakes Region of NH.

John’s commitment to adaptive sports began during his time at the University of New Hampshire, where he volunteered with Winners on Wheels, a program for children using wheelchairs. After graduating, a chance encounter on a Gunstock chairlift set his life with LRDS in motion when an adaptive instructor encouraged him to stop by and help. John accepted the invitation and never looked back, now entering his 19th winter season as a dedicated volunteer at LRDS. 

Beyond his hands-on work on the slopes, John brings extensive executive leadership experience in public transit, regional logistics, and organizational management to the LRDS Board. He currently serves as the Executive Director for Biddeford Saco Old Orchard Beach Transit in Maine and as President of the Northeast Passenger Transit Association. Deeply invested in the town where he has settled, John also maintains a strong commitment to local civic and community service in Barnstead. He has served as the President of the Barnstead Firefighters Association since its inception, held the role of Vice President for the Barnstead PTO, and serves the community as School District Moderator.

Brenna has been a dedicated 4th grade teacher for the past 15 years. She has also been an avid skier for 30 years. Brenna began volunteering for LRDS in 2024 and looks forward to her continued involvement for many years to come!

David has been a dedicated LRDS volunteer for more than 15 years and has participated in every type of lesson the program offers. He values every opportunity to volunteer and especially enjoys seeing the smiles and giggles on the snow. When he is not at the mountain, David resides in Southern Maine with his wife, whom he met through LRDS, their two children, and their dog. David is excited for the next chapter of the LRDS journey and is always hoping for a snow day!
